Colors

  • export TERM=wsvt25
  • OpenBSD's ls doesn't support colors, you have two possibilities:
    1. FreeBSD's ls (the UNIX guru's choice)
      • pkg_add colorls
      • colorls -G
    2. GNU ls
      • pkg_add coreutils
      • gls --color

Blanking

Add following lines to /etc/wsconsctl.conf:

display.screen_off=60000
display.kbdact=on
display.msact=off
display.outact=off
display.vblank=on
  • screen_off blanks the screen after the given value in ms
  • kdbact=on activates the screen on keyboard input
  • mscact=on activates on mouse movement
  • outact=on activates if there is output on the screen
  • vblank=on disables the vertical synchronization pulse, which allows some screens to go into energy saving mode

Keyboard

  • The configuration file is /etc/kbdtype, which contains just the layout, e.g. de.nodead
  • To change the layout on the fly: kbd de.nodead

Serial Console

  • USB to serial converter: cu -s 115200 -l /dev/cuaU0
  • Terminate session with: Newline + ~.
